Men's Golf Remains in Ninth at MAC Championship
May 01 | Men's Golf
Indianapolis, Ind. - With one round of the play remaining, the University of Akron men's golf team is ninth Friday carding a 902 (312-298-292) at the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championship.
"After struggling through the wind and the rain of day one, the
guys played better today," said head coach Nick Goetze. "We had a
lot of ground to make up and our more disciplined play gave us some
needed birdies. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going in the
final round and catch a few of the teams ahead of us."
Freshman Scott Landreth (Stratford, Ontario/St. Michaels Catholic) is the only Zip to reach par thus far for UA as he carded a 1-under, 71 during round three at the par-72, 6,994-yard Brickyard Crossing Golf Club. Posting a team-low 219 (75-73-71), Landreth's round three performance moved him up three spots into a tie for eighth overall.
Junior Jacob Patte (Oshawa, Ontario/Eastdale
Collegiate) sits second for UA moving up one spot from day one tied
for 24th shooting three rounds of 77-75-73 (225). After struggling
through the first round carding a 81, senior David Addison (Stewarton,
Scotland/Stewarton Academy) has rebounded in rounds two and three
posting a consistent 73 and 74 (228), tying for 34th overall.
Freshmen Tim Lew (Courtice, Ontario/Courtice
Secondary) and Ryan Mason (Bridgeport, W. Va./Bridgeport)
round out the Zips scorecard shooting a 230 (79-77-74) and 236
(81-77-78) respectively.
Kent State leads the tournament carding a 845 (294-280-271) while
KSU's John Hahn leads individually with a 205 (71-68-66).
The fourth and final round will take place Saturday and is set to
tee off at 8:00 a.m. Full results will be posted on www.GoZips.com.
