Underwood and Davidson Finish in Top-25 at MOGA Invitational

- For the second time in as many years, The University of Akron
juniors Doug Underwood (Stow,
Ohio/Stow) and Drew Davidson (Canton,
Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) competed in the Mid-Ohio Golf
Association (MOGA) Invitational both placing in the top-25 of the
102 player field.
Played at the Hickory Flats Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette,
Ohio, Underwood tied for 14th overall carding a 2-under 142 while
Davidson finished tied for the 23rd spot posting a 144 (E).
Tying for ninth at the 2008 event, Underwood played in two events
for the Zips during the 2008-09 season averaging 81.50 on the
green. Davidson, who tied for 31st at last year's tournament,
competed in three events for UA finishing the season with a 80.11
scoring average.
The 45th installment of the tournament is a 36-hole amateur golf
championship played annually at the 6,600-yard, par-72 Hickory Flat
Greens Golf Course. Designed by Jack Kidwell and opened in 1969,
the course has eight par four holes, five par three holes and five
par five holes. Hickory Flat Greens has a course rating of 70.4 and
a Slope of 109. The competitive course record is 62 shot by Zach
Sebert in the Mid-Ohio Invitational in 2007.
Not limited to golfers who reside in Ohio, the predominantly Ohio
field also showed golfers from Florida, Maryland, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The Zips will begin their competitive
season Sept. 13-14 at the Maryland Intercollegiate in
Cambridge, Maryland.
