Incoming Transfer Finishes Third at OGA Amateur Championship

KETTERING, Ohio - The University of Akron men's
golf incoming transfer Lucas Murray has posted an impressive summer
tournament resume thus far recently finishing third at the 2009
Ohio Golf Association Amateur Championship. Posting a 4-under 68 in
the opening round, Murray held steady the rest of the weekend
carding a 73-74-74 thru the final three rounds for a 289 (+1)
overall mark.
Murray, a local product from Canton South High School spent his
first two seasons at nearby Mount Union College where he was a
two-time NCAA Division III Ping All-American averaging 72.7 on the
links. As a sophomore, posting 11 top-five finishes in 13 events,
Murray grabbed a 38th place finish at the 2009 NCAA
Championships.
A strong competitor since he entered college, Murray completed 19.5
rounds with a 74.9 scoring average as a freshman boasting four
top-five finishes including a tie for seventh at the NCAA DIII
National Championship.
The Zips will begin their fall season Sept. 13-14 at the Maryland Intercollegiate.
