AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron graduated senior tennis player Alyssa Carlson (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran HS) was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) list of scholar-athletes for the 2008-09 season on Thursday. It marks the second time in her career that she has been so honored, also earning recognition at the conclusion of the 2007-08 season.
"It is very rewarding to see Alyssa's hard work in the classroom recognized by the ITA for the second-consecutive year," Akron head coach Jeffrey Wyshner said. "As a co-captain, she was expected to lead by example, and her conscientiousness in the classroom was one of the ways that she met that responsibility."
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1) be a varsity letterwinner, 2) have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year, and 3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Carlson posted a 3.675 GPA during the 2008-09 academic year. She completed a bachelor's degree in mass media radio/television with a minor in sociology in May.
