Tennis Rolls In Day One of Bowling Green Invitational

- The University of Akron tennis team advanced players to the finals of five singles flights and all three of its doubles pairs to the semifinals of their respective brackets on Saturday in day one of the Bowling Green Invitational.
Please click the link at the top of this article to download updated brackets. Team scores are not being kept, but individual champions will be crowned at each of the nine singles and four doubles flights.
The Zips closed the day with a 14-2 record (11-2 in singles, 3-0 in doubles), positioning themselves well for Sunday's singles finals and last two rounds of doubles play. Sunday's competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus.
In the singles portion of competition, UA sophomore Zara Harutyunyan (flight 1), freshman Angelina Jogasuria (flight 2), freshman Angelika Jogasuria (flight 3), freshman Prang Pantusart (flight 4) and junior Anya Baronayte (flight 6) will all play for the championship in their flight on Sunday.
In doubles play, the Zips' pairs of Angelina Jogasuria and Harutyunyan (flight 1), Angelika Jogasuria and Baronayte (flight 2) and Pantusart and junior Jeremie Benjamin (flight 3) all won their opening round matches.
UA junior Carolina Castro Cota will
play in Sunday's third-place match of flight 8 singles, while
Benjamin will line up in the consolation final of flight 7
singles.
Akron is competing in the event for the fourth-straight season, and
last year won flight 1 and 4 singles and flight 1 doubles.
