- Following an exciting opening weekend to its season, in which it won five of nine singles flights and three of four doubles draws at the Bowling Green Invitational, the University of Akron tennis team competes in the Spartan Invitational. The 20th-annual event will be held at Michgan State's Outdoor Tennis Courts on Friday-Sunday, with play beginning at 9 a.m. ET each day.

The Zips, who are competing in the Spartan Invite for the third-consecutive year, started their season with an impressive showing at last weekend's Bowling Green Invitational - claiming championships at flights 1-4 and 6 singles and 1-3 doubles. The Zips closed out the two-day event with a 25-4 record (16-4 singles, 9-0 doubles). Included in UA's list of winners were all three of its freshmen - Angelina Jogasuria (flight 2 singles, flight 1 doubles), Angelika Jogasuria (flight 3 singles, flight 2 doubles) and Prang Pantusart (flight 4 singles, flight 3 doubles).
The Akron team will be idle next week in preparation for the Wildcat Invitational at Northwestern on Oct. 9-11, but sophomore Zara Harutyunyan (plays at No. 1 singles and doubles, and won both at the Bowling Green Invite) will compete in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., from Oct. 3-11. The Riviera is one of three national championship events for collegiate tennis, with the other two being the ITA National Indoor Championships and the NCAA Championships.
