Leading the way for Akron in "A" singles (red draw) was sophomore Zara Harutyunyan and freshman Angelina Jogasuria. Both scored semifinal victories on Saturday to set up a championship matchup on Sunday against one another, but the players have agreed to be co-champions. In Saturday's semifinal play, Harutyunyan topped Michigan State's Amy Barton 6-0, 6-3; while Jogasuria defeated Evansville's Kate Chybowski, 7-6 (8), 6-0.
Angelina's identical twin sister, Angelika, will face off against Riekie Honiball from Miami (Ohio) in the "B" singles (white draw) championship on Sunday. She scored a 6-2, 6-0 win over Michigan State's Elena Ivanova in Saturday's third round and then topped teammate Prang Pantusart 6-3, retired, in the semifinal.
The UA pair of Harutyunyan and Angelina Jogasuria will compete for the title in the invite's doubles bracket (green draw). They are scheduled to face Toledo's Martina Wodzinski and Maha Guirguis in the championship, after defeating Megan Martzolf and Brintney Larson from Miami (Ohio) 8-3 in Saturday's semifinal.
Sunday's action is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. ET.
