Men's Golf Finishes 12th At Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate
September 27 | Men's Golf
- The University of Akron men's golf team finished 12th Sunday
at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate hosted by Vanderbilt
University.
Carding a 287-294 (581) on the challenging par-71, 7,100-yard
Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course, only two rounds were played
in the event as day two was canceled due to rains.
"All of the guys really stayed patient with their course management
today," said head coach Nick Goetze. "The wind and
tucked pins made for a challenging round. We made a lot of smart
choices out there. In particular Ryan Mason and Lucas
Murray did a great job. Although we didn't make up any ground
coming down the stretch their play certainly kept us in the
mix."
In the event UA was led by junior transfer Murray who carded a 142
(E) tying for 21st overall. After carding a one-over 72 during day
one, Murray rebounded and shot a one-under 70, the only Zip to
shoot under par during the final round.
Day one leader sophomore Mason finished second for the Zips
shooting a 143 (70-73) tying for 30th out of the field of 90
players.
Junior Doug Underwood carded two
solid rounds of 72-76 (148) and sophomore Scott Landreth and
freshman Cameron Simmons carded a
150. Landreth scored two rounds of 75 while Simmons posted a 73 and
77.
Middle Tennessee State claimed the team crown shooting a 12-under
556. University of Mississippi Jonathan Randolph grabbed the
individual title carding an 11-under 131.
The Zips will return to the greens next week (Oct. 5-6) when they
travel to the Xavier Invitational.
