Two Doubles Teams Advance at USTA/ITA Regional

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Two University of Akron doubles teams advanced into the main draw round of 16 on Friday at the USTA/ITA Midwest Championships, held at Varsity Tennis Center on the Michigan campus.
The Zips pair of Zara Harutyunyan and Angelina Jogasuria defeated the DePaul team of Katarina Milinkovic and Kelsey Lawson 8-6, while Angelika Jogasuria and Prang Pantusart moved past Wisconsin's Hannah Berner and Alaina Trgovich due to walkover.
Also representing UA in the doubles draw was the duo of Jeremie Benjamin and Carolina Castro Cota, who dropped their opening round match 8-2 to Michigan State's Whitney Wilson and Marina Bohrer, and Anya Baronayte and Natalia Kuvakina, who gave up a walkover win to Michigan's Brooke Bolender and Mimi Nguyen.
The doubles competition continues on Saturday, with a champion scheduled to be crowned on Monday. The singles main draw begins on Saturday, with Harutyunyan, the Jogasuria sisters and Pantusart competing. Baronayte, Benjamin, Castro Cota and Kuvakina all participated in Thursday's singles qualifying draw, but did not advance into the main draw.
Winners of the singles and doubles main draw earn a berth to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Nov. 4-7 at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
Participating schools at the Midwest regional include host Michigan, Akron, Cleveland State, DePaul, Detroit, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, IPFW, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin and Youngstown State.
