Tennis Concludes Play at USTA/ITA Regional

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Akron tennis team concluded its participation on Saturday in the USTA/ITA Midwest Championships, held at Varsity Tennis Center on the Michigan campus.
The Zips pairs of Zara Harutyunyan and Angelina Jogasuria, and Angelika Jogasuria and Prang Pantusart each lost their doubles main draw round of 16 contests and were eliminated from the bracket. Harutyunyan and Angelina were defeated 8-5 by Illinois' Allison Falkin and Rachael White, while Pantusart and Angelika fell 8-2 to Michigan's Michelle Sulahian and Sam Crister.
In the day's singles main draw competition, Angelina Jogasuria topped DePaul's Kelsey Lawson 6-0, 6-4 in the opening round, but was eliminated by Ohio State's Paloma Escobedo 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-4 in the round of 32. Harutyunyan earned a bye into the round of 32, where she lost 6-4, 7-5 to Michigan's Brooke Bolender. Angelika Jogasuria and Pantusart were both defeated in the opening round.
Winners of the event's singles and doubles main draw earn a berth in the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Nov. 4-7 at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
Participating schools at the Midwest regional include host Michigan, Akron, Cleveland State, DePaul, Detroit, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, IPFW, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin and Youngstown State.
The Zips are idle until Nov. 5-7 when they travel to the Purdue Invitational.
