Men's Golf Finishes Second at Memphis Intercollegiate

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -
The University of Akron men's golf team posted a second-place finish on Tuesday at the Memphis Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,334-yard Colonial Country Club.
After holding the day one lead, the Zips carded an 11-over 299 to finish seven shots behind South Alabama with a three-round score of 21-over 885 (293-293-299). However, Akron defeated six of the seven teams ranked in Golfweek's top-100 at the event, falling only to No. 91-ranked South Alabama (878, +14).
Senior Lucas Murray ended the tournament in a tie for eighth place after carding a final-round 77 (+5). He ended the week with a three-round score of 5-over 221 (71-73-77).
Sophomore Cameron Simmons posted a top-20 finish, wrapping up the day tied with a group in 20th place. His score of 1-over 73 was the top round of the day for the Zips and gave him a three-round tally of 8-over 224 (76-75-73).
Freshmen Charlie Bull and Drew Czuchry, tied for 24th after day one, finished in a tie for 28th place after carding identical rounds of 4-over 76. Both finished the event posting a three-round score of 9-over 225.
Junior Ryan Mason moved up 10 spots on the final day to finish in a tie for 39th place (228, +12), backed by a round of 2-over 74 to close out the event.
The Zips will close out the fall season when they travel to Cashiers, N.C., for the WCU Intercollegiate. The event is scheduled for November 1-2.
