Angelina Jogasuria Named MAC Tennis Player of the Week
April 21 | Women's Tennis
CLEVELAND - University of Akron freshman Angelina Jogasuria (Serpong, Indonesia/St. John's School/Sman 1 Pamulang) was named Mid-American Conference Tennis Player of the Week for the period ending April 21, the league office announced on Wednesday. She is the fifth UA tennis player to earn the award this season and it is the second time in her career that she has been so honored (also being chosen on Jan. 28).
Jogasuria posted a 4-0 combined record (2-0 in singles, 2-0 in doubles) last week to improve herself to 16-1 at No. 2 singles and 15-2 in dual-match doubles play this season. Angelina teamed with her identical twin sister, Angelika Jogasuria, to score an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles versus Ball State on Friday and an 8-3 victory at No. 2 over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday. In singles play against Ball State, she cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 and earned a three-set decision at No. 2 over Miami, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. UA's win over Ball State gave it a program single-season record fifth conference win.
Along with Jogasuria's pair of player of the week honors this season, Zips junior Anya Baronayte was selected on Feb. 11, junior Jeremie Benjamin on March 10 and sophomore Zara Harutyunyan on April 7. Today's announcement marks the 13th time in team history that UA has earned the award and the ninth over the last two seasons. Akron's five accolades this season leads the MAC, with Bowling Green's three being the next closest.
Akron (16-2, 5-1 MAC) wraps up the regular season on the road
this weekend, competing at league opponents Bowling Green (12-7,
2-4) on Friday and Western Michigan (13-9, 5-1) the next day. The
MAC Championship runs April 29-May 2 (Thursday-Sunday) on the
Western Michigan campus in Kalamazoo.
