Zips Finish Ninth At Boilermaker Invitational
April 25 | Men's Golf
West Lafayette, Ind. - The University of Akron men's golf team carded a 900 (302-291-307) at the Boilermaker Invitational for a ninth place tie at the par-72, 7,465-yard Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex Sunday afternoon.
"After finishing strong in the second round this morning we really put ourselves in good shape for the final 18," said head coach Nick Goetze. "Conditions were tough with lots of rain this afternoon and our team momentum stalled. Although, senior Jacob Patte got the job done well with an excellent 72, we need to get little more fight in our step for the Mid-American Conference Championship next week."
Patte led the way for UA carding a 220 (76-72-72) in the 66 player field finishing in a tie for 11th overall. Freshman Cameron Simmons shot a 227 (78-71-78) while sophomore Scott Landreth and junior Lucas Murray followed close behind carding a 228 (77-73-78) and 229 (71-75-83). Sophomore Ryan Mason rounded out the scorecard shooing a 236 (78-79-79). Junior Doug Underwood competed as an individual posting a 71-74-84 (229).
Akron played alongside a 12-team field in Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Toledo and Wisconsin.
Illinois took home both the team and individual titles carding a 854 as a group while Chris DeForest took home the individual medal with a 206 (69-69-68).
Akron will compete in the MAC championship next week (April 30-May 2) which will be held at the Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
