May 01 | Men's Golf
Nashport, Ohio - The University of Akron men's golf team moved up one to third place Saturday with one round remaining in the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championship at the par-72, 7,243-yard Longaberger Golf Club.
"The course played much easier today and we played an average round given the conditions," said head coach Nick Goetze. "We definitely got many more birdies on the board but some tentative shots results in some miscues. Staying focused on our game place and swinging with trust remain to be the two goals for us in the final round."
Carding a 7-over, 295 in the third round, Akron holds a 903 through the first 54 holes led by sophomore Scott Landreth who is shooting a 8-over, 224 (76-71-77) sitting in a tie for 13th.
After sitting in the 23rd spot after day one, junior Lucas Murray made up some ground through round three posting par to move up to 16th with a 226 overall. Close behind Murray is senior Jacob Patte in a tie for 17th with a 227 (74-78-75).
Junior Doug Underwood and freshman Cameron Simmons round out the Zips scorecard posting a 230 and 232. Underwood owns a 230 (80-77-73) while Simmons has a 232 (81-76-75) mark.
Kent State continues to lead both the team and individual fields carding a 4-under, 860 as a team while Golden Flash Brett Cairns holds a 4-under, 212.
