AKRON, Ohio - Men's golf 2010-11 signee Drew Czuchry is already making national headlines as he was named the Boys' Junior Golfweek Player of the Week after he shot a 9-under 204 (67-68-69) at the Roanoke (Va.) Country Club last weekend to win the Scott Robertson Memorial by one shot.
A native of Auburn, Ga. signing with UA last November, Czuchry had 15 birdies in his three rounds, and never carded anything higher than a bogey. Ranked No. 79 in Golfweek's rankings for the class of 2010, Czuchry is a two-time Player of the Year on the Georgia PGA Junior tour and in 2008 won the event.
"Drew will be a tremendous addition to our team for the 2010 season," said Goetze at the time of his signing. "He has a great work ethic and is committed to his academic and athletic success. Drew's polished swing technique and strong mental focus will certainly make him one of our players to watch and I know he'll continue to build on a very accomplished junior golf record as an Akron Zip."
The Zips are coming off a stellar season as they finished the 2010 Mid-American Conference tournament in third place, the second highest ever mark in the history of the program.
