UA Alum Slated First At Ohio Amateur Championship
July 14 | Men's Golf
Willoughby, Ohio - Men's golf alumnus Bill Williamson is among the top amateur golfers in the state at the Ohio Amateur Championships. Williamson shot a 5-under 66 at Kirtland Country Club to forge a two-stroke lead after Tuesday's first round at the 104th annual event.
Pete Samborsky II, the Wright State coach, and 19-year-old Dublin native Nick Reardon each shot a 68. At 69 were Dublin's David Becher and 16-year-old Michael Bernard, a junior-to-be at Wayne High School in Huber Heights. Five players were tied at 70. Only 10 of the 144 players in the field cracked par in the 72-hole tournament, which concludes Friday.
A 33-year-old lawyer living in Cincinnati, Ohio, Williamson competed for UA from 1996-99 lettering all four seasons. A second team All-Mid-American Conference honoree in 1998, Williamson holds three records for UA including career rounds (137), career tournaments (148) and is tied for most top-10 finishes with seven.
Williamson is set to tee off at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday. Fans and fellow alumni can follow the action live here.
