Murray Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar

AKRON, Ohio - Senior golfer Lucas Murray has been named to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
A total of 119 players were represented in Division I, 55 in Division II and four in NAIA earned the honor. Additionally, 22 honorees were added to the previously released Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars.
Murray, a standout on the course and in the classroom, finished the year with a team low 73.31 scoring average competing in all 36 rounds of play this season. A second team All-Mid-American Conference honoree, Murray posted nine top-25 marks including a first place standing at the Xavier Invitational (Oct. 5-6). As well, Murray finished first for Akron at the MAC Championship and ninth overall carding a 297. The mark helped lead UA to a third place finish, the second best in the history of the program.
In the classroom, Murray holds an outstanding 3.916 cumulative grade point average while majoring in business finance.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II and NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in Division I, II and III and 3.5 in NAIA. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
The 2010-11 season will get underway for the Zips Sept. 18-19 at the Maryland Intercollegiate in Cambridge, Md.
