Men's Golf Embarks On 2010-11 Season

Akron, Ohio - Under the tutelage of fourth year head coach Nick Goetze, the men's golf team will begin the 2010-11 season this weekend (Sept. 18-19) at the Maryland Intercollegiate.
A two-day, 54-hole tournament, the event will be hosted by the University of Maryland at River Marsh Golf Club at Hyatt Regency Resort in Cambridge, Md. A par-71 course that stretches 6,801 yards, two rounds will be played on Saturday with the final 18 holes taking place on Sunday.
The Zips carded a 883 (288-295-300) for a seventh place finish last year at the tournament led by current sophomore Cameron Simmons and current senior Lucas Murray. In Simmons first event as a Zip, he led UA carding a 7-over 220 (72-73-75) finishing in a tie for 23rd overall. Murray finished second at the event and tied for 27th in the 81-player field shooting a 8-over 221 (73-74-74).
This year's intercollegiate will feature 13 other teams including Francis Marion, George Mason, George Washington, James Madison, Navy, UNC-Wilmington, Old Dominion, Penn, Penn State, South Carolina - Aiken, Toledo, William & Mary and Xavier.
Both days the action will begin at 8:30 a.m.
