Men's Golf Sits Sixth At Maryland Intercollegiate

Cambridge, Md. - Led by senior Lucas Murray, The University of Akron men's golf team sits sixth after two rounds at the Maryland Intercollegiate. Carding a 578 (287-291) on the par-71, 6,801 yard River Marsh Golf Club, Murray leads the Zips with a 140 (69-71) for a sixth place tie.
"We played steady today and the guys did a nice job in our first outing of the year," said fourth year head coach Nick Goetze. "Our veterans in Lucas and junior Scott Landreth gave our team some solid rounds through the first 36 holes and freshman Drew Czuchry had a great start as well. We've got depth in this year's line up and I know we can close with a strong final round tomorrow."
Czuchry is second for UA and tied for 17th overall in his first collegiate event carding a 71-73 (144). Following just one stroke behind in 22nd place is Landreth with a 145 (74-71). Freshman Charlie Bull is 38th overall in the 78-player field with a 149 (73-76). Junior Ryan Mason rounds out the Zips scorecard with a 158 (78-80) mark.
Along with the Zips and Maryland, 13 other teams including Francis Marion, George Mason, George Washington, James Madison, Navy, UNC-Wilmington, Old Dominion, Penn, Penn State, South Carolina - Aiken, Toledo, William & Mary and Xavier are participating in this year's event. UNCW leads the way with a 560 (280-280) while Toledo's Jean-Hubert Trahan leads the individual race carding a 66-71 (137).
The third and final round will take place tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
