September 25 | Men's Golf
Franklin, Tenn. - The University of Akron men's golf team sits eighth Saturday after round two at the 10th annual Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate. As a team, the Zips are carding a 289-287 (576) in the 17-team field.
"The conditions were a bit easier today than in round one and we nearly put together a under par performance," said head coach Nick Goetze. "We are close to having a hot round and hopefully we will get it tomorrow to make a move."
Freshmen Drew Czuchry continues to lead UA carding a 142 (70-72) on the par-71, 7,100-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club to sit tied for 17th place. After carding a 73 in the opening round, senior Lucas Murray posted an impressive round of 70 to move into a tie for 25th. Junior Scott Landreth has held steady through two posting a 73 and 74 (147).
Close behind is sophomore Cameron Simmons and freshman Charlie Bull who carded a 149 (78-71) and 152 (73-79).
"Once again, the depth of our line-up proved to be crucial, with Cameron coming through with a strong 71 after a 78 yesterday," said coach Goetze. "His round was the perfect example of a 'never quit' attitude and that is the attitude that kept us in the mix today."
Akron is playing along side Arkansas State, Belmont, Davidson, Georgia State, Lipscomb, Memphis, Mississippi State, MTSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Alabama, South Carolina, UT Chattanooga, UT Martin and Western Carolina.
The third and final round will take place on Sunday with live scoring available here.
