Charlie Bull Named Co-MAC Golfer of the Week
October 12 | Men's Golf
CLEVELAND – University of Akron men's golfer Charlie Bull has been named Co-Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week the league office announced on Wednesday.
Bull earned his second-consecutive golfer of the week honor after posting his second top-three finish in as many weeks. He shared the honor with Eastern Michigan golfer Jared Dalga. Bull was named MAC Golfer of the Week on Oct. 6 after finishing tied for third place at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate on Oct. 2.
On Tuesday, Bull finished in a tie for third place at The Firestone Invitational at the world-famous Firestone Country Club thanks to his score of 6-under 210 (71-70-69). The Zips finished tied for eight at the event (872, +8). He was one of only four players to score under par in all three rounds in a field of 90 competitors.
Bull had one of the highlights of the tournament with his hole-in-one of the 178-yard eighth hole with a seven iron during the first round on Monday. The ace was the first of his collegiate career and fifth all-time, all coming with the same seven iron.
For the season, Bull has scored under par in five of his last six rounds and has closed out rounds at even par or better in eight of 12 rounds. He is carrying a team-best 71.08 scoring average and has not finished outside the top-16 since the Rio Pinar Invitational on March 14-15, 2010. That streak includes seven top-16 and four top-three finishes.
The Zips will conclude the fall schedule on Oct. 17 when they travel to Kettering, Ohio, for the UD Invitational.
