PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – University of Akron senior tennis player Zara Harutyunyan suffered a three-set loss in the singles prequalifying round of 16 at the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships on Sunday.
Listed 118th in the ITA's preseason rankings, Harutyunyan fell 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 to Lauren McHale of North Carolina. Competing in the event for the third-consecutive season, Harutyunyan won in straight-sets in the rounds of 64 and 32 of the prequalifying draw on Saturday.

The Riviera is one of three national championship events for collegiate tennis, with the other two being the ITA National Indoor Championships and the NCAA Championships.
The Akron tennis team will be idle until Sept. 20 when it competes in the ITA Midwest Regional at Ohio State.
