Bowling Green Sweeps Akron on Senior Night

AKRON, Ohio – On Senior Night at Rhodes Arena, The University of Akron volleyball team fell to Bowling Green in straight sets (21-25, 16-25, 14-25). Senior outside hitter Courtney Jarvis tallied nine kills, six digs and two blocks in her final appearance at the JAR and is just six kills away from reaching 1,000 for her career. With the loss, the Zips drop to 4-23 on the season and 1-13 in the Mid-American Conference.
For UA, sophomore Alex Cocklin added seven kills on 14 attempts and was error-free for a .500 hitting percentage. Middle blockers Paiton Twitty and Mary Delich each recorded five kills on the night, and setter Morgan Kuhn notched 25 assists and three kills. Each team finished with 5.0 total blocks, but BGSU (19-9, 6-8) out-hit the Zips .484 to .202.
The Zips were in the first set at 11-11 until the Falcons used a four-point run to take control. Akron battled back, however, to pull within one at 18-19, but with the set even at 21 all, Bowling Green went on another four-point run to close out the set at 25-21.
The last two sets were not as competitive, as BG jumped out to big leads in both and Akron could not mount a charge. In the third, the Falcons seemingly could not miss, swatting 19 kills on 26 attempts with just one error for an astounding .692 hitting percentage.
In the final weekend of the season, Akron will play at rival Kent State on Friday, Nov. 11 and then travel to Athens for a showdown with Ohio on Saturday, Nov. 12. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. ET.
