Men's Golf in Third Place at MAC Championships

MAINEVILLE, Ohio -
The University of Akron men's golf team sits in third place after day one of the 2011 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championships at the par-72, 7,180-yard TPC River's Bend Golf Club.
Playing two rounds on day one, the Zips carded scores of 9-over 297 and 10-over 298 to finish with a total of 19-over 595. Kent State leads after two rounds with a tally of 9-under 567 while Ball State is second with a score of 16-over 592.
Sophomore Cameron Simmons led the way for the Zips, posting rounds of 1-under 71 and 1-over 73 to finish in a tie for fourth place with a two-round score of even-par 144. Freshman Charlie Bull closed out the day in a group at 7-over 151 after posting scores of 4-over 76 and 3-over 75. Bull enters day two tied for 14th place.
Junior Scott Landreth currently sits in a tie for 16th place and opens play on Saturday with a two-round score of 8-over 152. He opened the championship event with a round of 1-over 73 before posting a second-round 79 (+7). Senior Lucas Murray recorded back-to-back rounds of 77 (+5) to finish the day in a tie for 20th place (154, +10).
Redshirt sophomore Tim Lew struggled to open the tournament, shooting a 12-over 84 before rebounding with a 1-over 73 during the second round. He finished the second round tied for 32nd place with a score of 157 (+13).
The Zips return to action tomorrow morning during the third round of the 2011 MAC Championships. Tee times are set to begin at 8 a.m. ET, with Akron players slated to tee off beginning at 9:20 a.m. ET. Golfstat live scoring will be available at GoZips.com.
