Men's Golf Concludes MAC Championships in Fourth Place

MAINEVILLE, Ohio -
The University of Akron men's golf team closed out the 2011 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championships in fourth place on Sunday at the par-72, 7,180-yard TPC River's Bend Golf Club.
Akron posted a final-round score of 12-over 300 to finish with a tally of 1,200 (+48) over four rounds. Kent State won the team title, posting a four-round score of 1-under 1,151. The Zips finished just two shots behind third-place Eastern Michigan (1,198, +46).
Sophomore Cameron Simmons posted a final-round 74 (+2) to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. His four-round score of 294 (+6) earned him a tie for fifth place. Freshman Charlie Bull closed out his first league championship event tied for 16th place with a three-day score of 13-over 301 after posting a round of 1-over 73 on Sunday.
Senior Lucas Murray finished the weekend tied for 23rd place with a score of 16-over 304. Following the event, Murray was named Second-Team All-MAC by the league coaches for his play throughout the 2010-11 season.
Junior Scott Landreth posted a final-round score of 7-over 79 to finish in 26th place (309, +21). Redshirt sophomore Tim Lew rounded out the squad in 38th place with a tally of 317 (+29) following his round of 5-over 77.
The MAC Championships conclude the regular season for the Zips. Akron will now wait to see if they receive an at-large or an individual invitation to the NCAA Regional Championships, which will be announced on May 9.
