May 31 | Women's Tennis
CLEVELAND – University of Akron sophomore tennis student-athletes Angelika Jogasuria and Prang Pantusart were named to the eight-person Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league office announced on Tuesday. They are the first Zips to earn this distinction since Jenna Larson did so in 2007.
Jogasuria and Pantusart, who earned All-MAC honors this season as well, helped Akron to its first-ever MAC tournament title and NCAA Tournament team appearance this season. The Zips finished the campaign with a 20-5 overall record (7-1 MAC), the most victories in a season for the program since the 1990-91 squad finished 26-6, and rounded out the year with a loss to 10th-ranked Michigan in the NCAA Tournament's first round. UA defeated Miami (Ohio) 4-3 in the conference tournament championship match.
Jogasuria finished the season with a 20-4 dual-match singles record (8-0 MAC) and a 19-4 dual-match doubles mark (7-1 MAC), and earned the squad's most valuable player award (team member with best overall record) and most improved player award (voted on by the team). She owns a 3.46 grade-point average as a nursing major.
Pantusart went 20-3 in dual-match singles (8-0 MAC) and 19-4 in dual doubles play (7-1 MAC). She won a three-set match at No. 3 singles in the MAC tournament title contest, which made the team score 3-all and led to UA's championship. She maintains a 3.49 GPA as a business major.
Voting was done by the faculty athletics representatives at the nine conference schools that sponsor women's tennis as an NCAA varsity sport. Nominees must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA to be eligible to be on the ballot.
