Tennis Advances in Doubles and Singles at Muirfield Collegiate Invite

COLUMBUS – The University of Akron tennis squad advanced both of its doubles teams and two singles players into the second round of the Muirfield Collegiate Invitational on Friday. The three-day clay courts event is being hosted by Ohio State at The Country Club at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.
In the opening doubles round of 16, the Zips pair of Zara Harutyunyan and Prang Pantusart defeated Ball State's Sarah Hebble and Lauren Pickrel 8-2, while the UA duo of Ksenia Berestetska and Olga Shkundina got the best of Dayton's Maureen Stevens and Claire McNulty 8-0.
On the singles courts, Harutyunyan and Shkundina advanced into the round of 16 with convincing victories. Harutyunyan, seeded No. 1 in the bracket and ranked 118th nationally, disposed of Dayton's Sami Horbarger 6-0, 6-3 and Shkundina took care of Ball State's Kylee Johnson 6-2, 6-2.
Berestetska lost her opening round singles contest 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (5) to Cincinnati's Ashleigh Witte.
