Tennis Swings Into Action this Weekend at Muirfield Collegiate Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – The defending Mid-American Conference champion University of Akron tennis team begins the fall component of its season this weekend when it competes in the Muirfield Collegiate Tennis Invitational at The Country Club at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio. Ohio State will host the unique event which is played on clay courts.
Competition runs Friday-Sunday, with play beginning at 9 a.m. ET Friday with eight doubles matches, followed by singles at 11 a.m.
The tournament features a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles bracket. Friday and Saturday will both feature eight doubles matches in the morning followed by 16 singles matches throughout the day. The main draw doubles semifinal round begins at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The tournament concludes Sunday with seven doubles matches (8 a.m.) followed by the doubles final (10 a.m.) and the singles semifinals (11:30 a.m.) and final (2 p.m.).
Along with Akron and the host Buckeyes, the nine-team invitational field also includes Ball State, Cincinnati, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Kentucky, Louisville and Wright State.

Representing the Zips in the field will be senior and three-time MAC Player of the Year Zara Harutyunyan, junior and 2011 All-MAC selection Prang Pantusart, and newcomers sophomore transfer Ksenia Berestetska and freshman Olga Shkundina.
Harutyunyan is seeded No. 1 in the singles bracket and listed 118th nationally in the ITA's preseason rankings.
Berestetska, who hails from Kiev Ukraine, competed at Stephen F. Austin as a freshman in 2010-11. Shkundina, who is 15 years old, is from Ufa, Russia.
Harutyunyan and Pantusart will comprise one UA doubles team and Berestetska and Shkundina the other. All four will compete in singles as well.
