Spartan Invitational – Final Results
EAST LANSING, Mich. – University of Akron junior Ksenia Berestetska scored a comeback victory to claim the title of flight C singles in the final day of the Akron women's tennis team's participation in Michigan State's 23rd-annual Spartan Invitational on Sunday.
Berestetska, who was the champion of this event's flight C bracket last season as well, defeated Illinois-Chicago's Jana Knoppe 0-6, 6-3 (10-8). On Saturday, she defeated Marquette's Ali Dawson 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinal and Christine Guerrazzi from Miami (Ohio) 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinal.
UA's Angelika Jogasuria advanced to the consolation final in flight B singles, but the matchup between her and Alix Thurman from Miami (Ohio) was not played today. After losing her opening round match on Friday, the Zips senior topped Illinois-Chicago' Natalia Kuvakina 7-5, 7-5 and Marquette's Rocio Diaz 7-6 (4), 6-4 on Saturday.
The Zips conclude their fall schedule at Midwest regionals on Oct. 18-23, hosted by University of Illinois.
