Men's Golf Opens The Firestone Invitational on Monday

AKRON, Ohio – Following a 22-day layoff, The University of Akron men's golf returns to action on Monday when it plays host to The Firestone Invitational, Presented by FirstEnergy Solutions, at the world-famous Firestone Country Club.
The two-day tournament will feature three rounds of golf, including 36 holes on Monday beginning with an 8:30 a.m. ET shotgun start. Tuesday's final round will also begin at 8:30 a.m. with tee times set to begin from the first and tenth tees. All three rounds can be followed live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
This year's 17-team field includes five Mid-American Conference opponents, including Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio) and Ohio, as well as Davidson, Illinois State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland, Nebraska, Samford, St. Mary's (Ca.), USC-Aiken and Wisconsin.
The Zips last played on Sept. 16 at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind. Junior Charlie Bull led Akron to a seventh-place finish. He closed the event with a two-day score of 4-under 209 to tie Finley Ewing IV of Texas Tech for second place. As a team, UA posted a three-round tally of 887 (+35).
St. Mary's looks to defend its team title from last year's Firestone Invitational after sharing medalist honors with Indiana, who is not in this year's field. The two squads finished with a two-day score of 10-under 854. The Zips finished with a score of 8-over 872 to finish tied for eighth. Bull led the way with a 6-under 210, including a hole-in-one during the first round.
