AKRON, Ohio – Despite a two-hour delay due to heavy frost, The University of Akron men's golf team is in the hunt after one round of The Firestone Invitational, Presented by FirstEnergy Solutions, on Monday.
The Zips are part of a trio, including Iowa State and Eastern Michigan, tied for fourth place after a round of 2-over 290. Mid-American Conference foe Ball State leads the field after posting a score of 6-under 282.
Freshman Ryan Harris and junior Charlie Bull sits inside the top-10 following a rounds of 2-under 70 and 1-under 71 respectively. Harris is tied for eighth while Bull is tied for tenth.
Senior Cameron Simmons is tied for 21st place thanks to a round of 1-over 73 while freshman Louis Birchall sits tied for 58th (76, +4). Freshman Carr Vernon rounded out the scoring-five tied for 79th with a score of 79 (+7).
Harry Whittle and Tim Lew, both playing as individuals, are tied for 43rd and 90th respectively. Whittle fired a round of 2-over 74 while Lew posted a round of 85 (+13).
Heavy frost forced the cancellation of the second round on Monday. The final round will tee off on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET from the first and tenth tees. Follow all the action live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
