Men's Golf Announces 2012 Fall Schedule

AKRON, Ohio – The Firestone Invitational at the world renowned Firestone Country Club and trips to South Carolina, Indiana and Kentucky highlight the fall portion of the 2012-13 Akron men's golf schedule, head coach David Trainor announced on Monday.
The fall slate includes tournaments hosted by two top-100 teams in the No. 33 Indiana and No. 87 College of Charleston, in addition to an outing hosted by Western Kentucky and Akron's own Firestone Invitational.
"I have been thrilled about our fall schedule for quite some time," Trainor said. "It is my goal to provide our team with a great experience, combining strong competition on top-notch courses. We are playing an extremely competitive schedule on four of the best golf courses played in all of collegiate golf. I am looking forward to getting the season started and I know our team is excited as well."
Akron opens the season on Sept. 9 in Kiawah Island, S.C., at The Invitational at The Ocean Course (Sept. 9-11). The three-day event, hosted by the College of Charleston, will be played on the Ocean Course.
Four days later, the Zips will travel to the Wolf Run Golf Course in Zionsville, Ind., for the Wolf Run Intercollegiate (Sept. 15-16), hosted by Indiana. The trip to the event will be the first for UA.
The squad returns home on Oct. 8 to play host to the Firestone Invitational on the on the North Course of Firestone Country Club.
Akron concludes the fall slate with a trip to Bowling Green, Ky., for the Kenny Perry Invitational (Oct. 14-16) at The Club at Olde Stone. The event is named after Kenny Perry, a 14-time winner on the PGA Tour and graduate of Western Kentucky.
The Zips return five student-athletes from last year's squad, led by Golf Coaches Association of America All-Region and First-Team All-MAC selection Charlie Bull. Bull, a junior, will also be joined by seniors Tim Lew and Cameron Simmons, and sophomores Miguel Meyer and Harry Whittle.
New to the squad in 2012-13 will be freshmen Louis Birchall (Ingestre Park, England), Ryan Harris (Carlisle, Mass.) and Carr Vernon (Poplar Bluff, Mo.).
