Men's Golf Heads to Wolf Run Intercollegiate This Weekend

AKRON, Ohio – Just four days after finishing seventh at The Invitational at Kiawah in Kiawah Island, S.C., The University of Akron men's golf team travels to Zionsville, Ind., for the Wolf Run Intercollegiate this weekend.
Competing this week for the Zips will be senior Cameron Simmons, junior Charlie Bull and freshmen Louis Birchall, Ryan Harris and Carr Vernon.
UA will face off against five Big Ten teams including No. 30 Illinois, tournament-host No. 33 Indiana, No. 86 Michigan State, No. 79 Ohio State, and Wisconsin. The rest of the field includes Butler, Eastern Michigan, IPFW, IUPUI, No. 72 Kentucky, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois and No. 47 Texas Tech.
The tournament will feature 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. Live scoring will not be available.
Akron is coming off a solid opener in South Carolina where the Zips finished in seventh place playing at The Ocean Course, home to the 2012 PGA Championship. UA posted a three-day total of 925 (+61).
Low scores were at a minimum, with just two players scoring under 75 and 51 scores carded at 80 or higher (96 players) during the final round. All three days saw windy conditions.
Bull led the way with a top-15 finish, finishing tied for 13th place at 12-over 228. Simmons ended the tournament tied for 27th place (232, +16), improving his score each round and climbing 59 spots from his round-one finish.
Birchall concluded his first collegiate event in a group at 20-over 236, good for a tie for 39th place. Harris and Vernon followed Birchall in a tie for 68th and a tie for 75th respectively. Harris finished at 26-over 242 while Vernon tallied a score of 246 (+30) over three rounds.
