Men's Golf to Play Host to The Firestone Invitaitonal

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's golf team returns to action on Monday when it plays host to The Firestone Invitational, Presented by FirstEnergy Solutions, at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club North Course.
This year's field includes three Mid-American Conference foes (Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio) and Ohio), as well as five Golfstat Top-100 teams (No. 5 USC-Aiken (DII), No. 67 Washington State, No. 69 Samford, No. 85 Davidson, No. 86 Saint Mary's). The rest of the 17-team field includes College of Charleston, Francis Marion, Georgetown, Illinois State, Kansas State, Nebraska, Old Dominion and Western Kentucky.
Play is set to begin on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET, with the second round to immediately follow the conclusion of the first round. The third and final round will begin with tee times from the No. 1 and No. 10 tees beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Akron is coming off a 19th-place finish at the Saint Mary's Invitational on Sept. 24. The Zips finished the event with a 54-hole score of 926 (+62) and were led by senior Charlie Bull and freshman J.B. Williams. The pair closed out the week in a tie for 62nd place with scores of 230 (+14).
In last year's edition of the Firestone Invitational, the Zips concluded play in fourth place with a two-day score of 584 (+8). MAC-foe Ball State won the event with a 36-hole score of 7-under 569.
Then-freshman Ryan Harris earned his first collegiate top-5 finish, closing the tournament with a two-round total of 142 (-2), good for a tie for fifth place in the field of 90 golfers.
