Carr Vernon Named Missouri Amateur Golfer of the Year

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – University of Akron sophomore golfer Carr Vernon was named the 2013 Missouri Golf Association Amateur Golfer of the Year on Nov. 26.
Outside of his play for the Zips, Vernon has a stellar performance over the summer in several events to earn the honor.
The highlight of his summer schedule including an appearance in the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur at the Country Club in Brookline, Mass. After finishing tied for 27th place in the stroke play event (out of 312 golfer), Vernon won his Round of 64 match 1 UP after 19 holes before falling to eventual runner-up Oliver Goss 2 UP.
Vernon also earned a spot in the U.S. Open sectional qualifying event after finishing tied for fourth place at his local qualifier event.
In addition to his strong play on the national level, Vernon had a solid campaign against the best amateurs in the state of Missouri. He finished tied for 13th in the stroke play portion of the Missouri Amateur Championship before advancing to the Round of 32. In his Round of 32 match, he fell to 2013 Senior Amateur Player of the Year Steve Groom.
Vernon and the Zips return to action in the spring when they travel to Mobile, Ala., on February 17 for the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
