Swimming and Diving Falters in Final Home Meet Against BGSU

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron swimming and diving team lost its final home and regular season meet of the season to Bowling Green State University by a score of 175-117 on Friday afternoon in the Ocasek Natatorium.
The Zips fell to an overall record of 3-5 and 0-4 within the Mid-American Conference (MAC), while the Falcons improved to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the MAC.
Ashley Drazkowski was the lone swimmer on UA to achieve an individual first place. She finished the 500 Freestyle in 5:05.12.
Junior Catherine Carr also collected some top-three finishes throughout the contest within the 200 Butterfly (2:05.51), 100 Butterfly (57.77), and 400 IM (4:26.47). All of Carr's top-three finishes came in second place.
BGSU decided to skip the diving events for their athletes, but Carla McNamara still had a spectacular day from one-meter and three-meter diving. She posted a 304.45 in the one-meter and a 307.75 in three-meter diving.
Akron swept the 200 Freestyle Relay, as the three competing teams finished in the top three positions. The "A" team finished in 1:37.53.
Senior Kelsea Cross notched a second place finish in the 100 Breastroke, as she touched the wall in 58.90. Hannah Raspopovich also had registered second place, but within the 50 Freestyle event in 24.02.
The squad benefitted from several third-place finishes with Amanda Lawson in the 200 Breaststroke, Kelsey Ferrante in the 200 and 100 Backstroke, Kendra Colby in the 100 Breaststroke, and Drazkowski in the 200 Freestyle.
The next meet for UA will be the MAC Championships, which are being hosted by the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y. The meet will span three days, and begin on Thursday, Feb. 28.
