BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University of Akron (9-29) baseball team fell in the midweek matchup to Canisius College (28-10) by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon at the Demske Sport Complex.
Jon Pusateri made the start at pitcher for UA, and saw his record fall to 1-8 in the loss. The sophomore from Randolph, Ohio pitched 3.0 innings with four earned runs and one strikeout.
The Akron offense was aided by two early long-balls, which gave the Zips a 3-0 lead following the top of the third inning.
Senior Jared Turocy plated the first run of the game on a solo homer to right field in the second inning, his second homerun of the season. Turocy's homer was also the second of his collegiate career.
Right fielder Joey Havrilak also utilized the homerun ball in the top of the third inning – a two-run shot – to put Akron on top of Canisius 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third. Havrilak leads the Akron lineup in homeruns with three.
The Zips bullpen performed admirably following the exit of Pusateri. Zach Beaver, Andrew Fanning and Samuel Trecaso combined for 5.0 scoreless innings with four hits allowed. Beaver logged the most time on the mound with 3.0 innings pitched.
