Baseball Falls to Buffalo on Saturday, 7-2

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron (9-31, 6-11 MAC) baseball team fell to the University at Buffalo (23-17, 13-4 MAC) in game two of the three game Mid-American Conference series by a score of 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Field.
Freshman John Valek started on the mound for the Zips. Valek pitched 5.0 innings in his 10th start of the season, while allowing five hits, two earned runs and striking out three. The Parkland, Fla., native saw his record fall to 2-7 with the loss.
Offensively, Akron tallied a total of five hits and four walks on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Matt Rembielak led all Zips batters with two total hits. Rembielak also notched one walk and one RBI.
Brady Stewart and Joey Havrilak each had one run scored and one walk a piece in the loss to Buffalo. Three Akron batters – Jared Turocy, Tyler Begun and James Sheltrown – registered one base hit on the afternoon.
Joe Cochran lasted the most time on the mound for the Akron bullpen. Cochran logged 2.2 innings pitched with two hits allowed and two strikeouts.
Akron and Buffalo will play the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m., in Canal Park. Freshman Michael Steensen is the probable starting pitcher for the Zips.
