Baseball Heads to Xavier for Tuesday Matchup

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron baseball team travels to Xavier University for a midweek matchup on Tuesday at 3 p.m., on Hayden Field.

Series Overview
Zips baseball heads into the midweek matchup with an overall record of 15-33 and 10-3 in the Mid-American Conference, following a series win this past weekend at Central Michigan. UA won the opening two games by scores of 8-7 and 11-2, but fell in the series finale, 18-8.
Xavier heads into Tuesday's game with an overall record of 27-23 and 14-7 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. XU saw action this past weekend against A-10 opponent Massachusetts, which resulted in a three-game sweep for Xavier.
Akron holds an all-time series record of 12-10 against Xavier. The Musketeers defeated the Zips earlier this season at Canal Park by a score of 11-3.
The Starter
Freshman JT Brubaker will be making his 14th start of the season on Tuesday afternoon. Brubaker's most recent start was this past Friday against Central Michigan.
The New Carlisle, Ohio native lasted 1.2 innings with six runs allowed and one strikeout. Overall this season, Brubaker has pitched 57.2 innings with 34 strikeouts and 22 walks.
Quick Hits
Senior Jared Turocy comes into Tuesday's matchup with an 18 game hit streak after a strong week in games against Penn State and Central Michigan. This past week, Turocy went 9-for-19 with one double, one triple, five runs scored, four RBI and five stolen bases. The native of Canfield, Ohio leads the Akron offense in batting average (.372), slugging percentage (.513), on-base percentage (.413), and RBI (24).
Junior Brady Stewart set a single game high for hits in Sunday's contest at CMU. Stewart went 5-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored in the loss. This season, Stewart is batting .276 with 18 RBI and 16 runs scored.
Center fielder Devan Ahart registered back-to-back three hit games this past week, one against Penn State and another versus CMU. Over four games last week, Ahart went 7-for-16 with six runs, four RBI and two stolen bases.
Ahart drove in four runs in Sunday's 8-7 win over CMU, which set a single game high for the sophomore. The native of Orchard Lake, Mich., had a previous single game record of two RBI.
Senior Samuel Trecaso has continued to provide strong relief out of the Akron bullpen. The Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio native appeared in three games this past week, registering 4.0 innings on the mound with one save and one run allowed.
Overall in 2013, Trecaso owns a 0.89 ERA over 30.1 innings on the mound, while also compiling a 4-1 record and four saves.
