ALPHARETTA, Ga. – University of Akron men's golfer Charlie Bull was named to the Division I PING All-Region Midwest team for a second-consecutive season, the Golf Coaches Association of American announced on Tuesday.
Bull, fresh off his second NCAA Regional Championship appearance, is one of 155 student-athletes across six regions – Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West – named to the All-Region teams.
The 2012-13 season was an eventful one for Bull as he posted 10 top-25 finishes in 12 events, won his first collegiate tournament at the Kenny Perry Invitational (Oct. 14-16), earned his second First-Team All-MAC honor and moved into the top spot in the Akron recordbook for career scoring average (73.59). His 73.15 scoring average this season is the fifth-lowest in program history.
Earlier this month, Bull finished in a tie for 25th place with a three-day score of 9-over 222 at the Columbus Regional, his second top-25 finish in the NCAA Regionals in as many seasons.
Bull opened the month of May by posting the third-highest finish at the Mid-American Conference Championship by an Akron player. He used a round of 2-over 74 to close out the event in third place with a four-round score of 2-over 290. His third-place finish trails only Greg Boyette (1998) and Brad Wright (2007) who posted second-place finishes.
Bull is one of five golfers representing the MAC on the Midwest team, including Corey Connors (Kent State), Tyler Merkel (Ball State), Tyler Pendrith (Kent State) and Chris Selfridge (Toledo).
The tournament wraps up the season for Bull and the Zips. Both will return to action this coming fall.
