Martha Thorn Invite: Day 1 Results

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Zips women's tennis utilized a youthful lineup during the first day of competition at West Virginia's Martha Thorn Invitational on Friday at the Ridgeview Racquet Club.
In the opening match against Duquesne, freshman Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia) defeated Spencer Cravaggio, 6-0, 5-7, 10-4. In doubles action, Blinova and freshman Kati Mdzinarishvili (Hudson, Ohio) beat Alexa Miller and Zuzanna Stelmaszak, 8-5.
Host West Virginia swept the Zips in the second match, claiming all four singles matches as well as the doubles match.
"Today we learned a lot about ourselves, what we excel at, and struggle with," head coach Brandon Padgett said. "I am proud of the effort and happy with the continued development."
Play at the Martha Thorn Invitational continues on Saturday, Nov. 1, as the Zips play James Madison at 10 a.m., followed by Liberty at Noon. Each match will feature No. 1-4 singles play and one doubles match. Line-ups may change for each opponent.
