Men's Golf Set to Host Firestone Invitational, Presented by FirstEnergy Solutions

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's golf team will play host to the 17-team Firestone Invitational, Presented by FirstEnergy Solutions, beginning on Monday at the world-famous Firestone Country Club.
The Zips will welcome four Mid-American Conference foes, in addition to 12 other teams, as part of this year's event. This year's field includes Ball State, Charleston, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Georgetown, Illinois State, Kansas State, Miami (Ohio), Ohio, Old Dominion, Presbyterian, Saint Mary's (Calif). USC-Aiken, Valparaiso, Western Kentucky and Xavier.
Play will begin on Monday at 8:15 a.m. ET, with round one set for a shotgun start. Round two will follow immediately after the conclusion of the first round. Tuesday's final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. with tee times at the first and tenth tees. The Zips finished last year's Firestone Invitational in sixth place (880, +16), nine-shots behind team champion USC-Aiken (871, +7).
Akron is coming off a 13th-place finish at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate on September 21. As a team, UA finished with a 54-hole tally of 931 (+79).
Louis Birchall led the way for the Zips, finishing tied for 34th place (231, +18). Yann Pfeiffer, making his Zips' debut, finished in a tie for 43rd place (232, +19).
