TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Akron swimming and diving team lost in a dual meet to the University of Toledo by a final score of 183-117 on Saturday afternoon in UA's final dual meet of the 2013-14 campaign.
Overall, Akron recorded 12 top-three finishes in the dual meet at Toledo, which included three races with first-place times and seven events with second-place finishes.
Sophomore Erin Seiler posted the Zips first, first-place time of the afternoon in the 200 butterfly at a time of 2:07.21. Seiler's first place performance was followed by junior Kelsey Ferrante in first for the 100 freestyle (57.72) and senior Kendra Colby ending in first in the 200 IM (2:08.28).
Akron received second places times from Ashley Drazkowski (1000, freestyle, 10:26.04), Ludwika Szynal (100 backstroke, 57.29, 200 backstroke, 2:02.17), Colby (100 breaststroke, 1:06.11, 200 breststroke, 2:24.33), and Hannah Raspopovich (50 freestyle, 23.77)
The Zips earned a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, the first event of the afternoon. Ferrante, Colby, Seiler, and Raspopovich combined for a time of 1:45.25.
Akron another top-three relay time, this time second place in the 400 freestyle, the final event of the dual meet. The Zips team of Taylor Hart, Raspopovich, Ashley Niznik, and Ferrante finished the race at 3:34.63.
In the diving pool, freshman Paige Kelkenberg had the highest individual finish in three-meter diving with a final score of 291.52. Senior Carla McNamara tallied a pair of third place scores during the dual meet in one-meter diving (263.63) and three-meter diving (280.35).
UA swimming and diving will next compete at the Ohio State Winter Invite, which will take place from Feb. 8-9 in Columbus, Ohio.
