AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron (20-17, 9-6 MAC) baseball team dropped the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Field to Mid-American Conference opponent Bowling Green State University (16-19, 8-7 MAC) by a final score of 8-1.
Akron right-hander Myles McVeigh made the start on the hill, tossing 2.1 innings with five runs allowed, two walks and one strikeout. McVeigh's record dropped to 1-2 after the loss.

McVeigh was roughed up for four runs in the third, which gave way for Akron reliever Masashi Sakamoto to enter the game. Sakamoto finished off the second and tossed scoreless frames in the fourth and fifth.
However, the Bowling Green offense got to Sakamoto in the sixth for two runs, one earned, raising his season ERA to 1.75. He finished the game with 3.2 innings, four hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
Redshirt junior Matt LaRocca took over in the seventh inning out of the UA bullpen, totaling 3.0 innings on the day. LaRocca allowed the final run to BGSU in the ninth to bring the game to its final score of 8-1. He ended the day with one run allowed and four strikeouts.
Overall, Akron registered six base hits and two walks, led by Kris Simonton and Billy Salem with two hits apiece. Grant Alvarez and Lees each had one hit, with Lees scoring the Zips lone run of the afternoon.
