AKRON, Ohio – For a third-consecutive season, University of Akron senior golfer Charlie Bull has been named to the 2014 Division I PING All-Region Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced on Thursday.
Bull, the only Zips' golfer in program history to earn the honor, is one of 157 student-athletes across six regions – Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West – named to the All-Region teams.
"I am extremely proud of what Charlie accomplished, not only this season, but during his four-year career as a Zip," head coach David Trainor said. "To be named to the PING All-Region team is a great accomplishment and is one Charlie definitely earned. He will be extremely missed here at Akron."
The 2013-14 season – and his career as a whole – was a memorable one for Bull. He finished the season with a 72.65 scoring average, breaking Blake Sattler's mark of 72.89 during the 2006-07 campaign. In addition to posting eight top-25 finishes in 11 events, he also posted 16 rounds under par, tied for second-most in program history.
Earlier this month, Bull was named First-Team All-Mid-American Conference for a third-straight year, in addition to earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team after a third-place finish at the MAC Championship. He finished in third place, his third top-five showing at the league championship.
Bull leaves Akron as the career scoring leader (73.36), as well as owning the most rounds under par (47). He finished his four years playing the second-most rounds by a Zip (137) and is tied for the second-most events played by an Akron golfer (47).
