AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron men's golf head coach David Trainor announced on Wednesday that George Baylis (Ascot, England) and Yann Pfeiffer (Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, France) will compete for the Zips beginning with the 2014-15 season.
Baylis joins the Zips' squad after signing his National Letter of Intent while Pfeiffer is a transfer from Alabama State and will have three years of eligibility remaining. Baylis and Pfeiffer join Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) as part of the Zips' recruiting class for 2014-15. Grayson singed his national letter of intent in November.
"I'm thrilled to add Yann and George to our Zips family," Trainor said. "Both young men bring with them a great deal of international competition and both have fared very well. I expect that Yann, George and Elliot will make great impacts during their collegiate careers at Akron."
Baylis, a graduate of Bisham Abbey, brings a ton of experience to the Akron program. He was the youngest Mill Ride Golf Club Champion in addition to winning the Gerrards Cross Open, Burnham Beeches Open, Tadmartin Heath Open, Studley Wood Open and Buford Open. In addition to his success in amateur events, he has posted three top-15 finishes in professional events while playing as an amateur.
"George is a very accomplished player and I look at him as someone who will compete immediately for playing time," Trainor said. "In several conversations, he told me he loved watching the NCAA Championship on TV and has already made it his goal to get there."
Pfeiffer spent the 2013-14 season as a freshman for the Alabama State Hornets. He made 10 appearances as a freshman, posting a win at the FAMU Spring Invitational, six top-10 and eight top-25 finishes. He concluded the year with a 73.54 scoring average, posting 10 rounds at par or better, and a season-best round of 6-under 66.
"Yann had a very good year at Alabama State and I think that will help him adjust very quickly to his collegiate career at Akron," Trainor said. "The difference between a student-athlete's freshman and sophomore years is huge and Yann already has the first year under his belt. Although there is always a learning curve, Yann's will be less steep than that of other players."
