Harris, Birchall Named To Men's Golf Academic All-MAC Team

AKRON, Ohio – A pair of sophomores from The University of Akron men's golf team, Ryan Harris and Louis Birchall have been recognized by the Mid-American Conference for their athletic and academic achievements, the league office announced Wednesday.
Harris was named to the Academic All-MAC Team while Birchall received Honorable Mention.
Harris, an All-MAC First Team honoree in 2013-14, finished second on the Zips in scoring average (73.48), posting six top-25 finishes in nine events. The Massachusetts native posted 12 rounds at par of better, which was ninth most for a single season in program history. Moreover, four or his six top-25 finishes came inside the top 10, including a fourth-place showing at the MAC Championship, where he was also named to the MAC All-Tournament Team.
Harris owns a 3.27 GPA as a business administration major at UA.
Birchall, a 2013 Dean's List honoree, appeared in nine events for the Zips, posting a 75.89 average. The Englishman finished with a pair of top-25 finishes, including a season-best tie for ninth place. In all, Birchall finishes with four rounds at par of better.
Birchall owns a 3.76 GPA as a geography major at UA.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
