Women's Tennis Hosts Akron Shootout at New On-Campus Facility

AKRON— Zips women's tennis opens its 2014 fall schedule on Friday, Sept. 19 by hosting its own Akron Shootout.
Prior to match play, head coach Brandon Padgett, Director of Athletics Tom Wistrcill, and University President Dr. Scott Scarborough will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at the new on-campus tennis facility (yet to be named), located just south of InfoCision Stadium across Exchange Street. Following the ceremony, Dr. Scarborough will face senior Olga Shkundina (Ufa, Russia) for the official first point.
"It gives us great pleasure as a team to officially open up the new tennis facility on campus," said Padgett, who enters his fifth season with the Zips. "We have waited for a while to see this day come to fruition, and it is with the wonderful support of people like Tom, Mary Lu (Gribschaw), and of course, the President and his staff, that we have reached this point in our history as a program."
Following the ceremony, the Akron Shootout will get underway at 9 a.m. with singles matches between Duquesne and Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC). Doubles action begins at Noon with Akron taking on UMBC, while Duquesne faces Texas State. At 1 p.m., Akron hosts Texas State in singles action.
On Saturday, Sept. 20, play resumes at 9 a.m. with Duquesne facing Texas State in singles. Doubles begin at Noon features Akron against Duquesne, and Texas State playing UMBC. At 1 p.m., Akron hosts UMBC in singles action.
On Sunday, Sept. 21, Texas State and UMBC square off in singles at 9 a.m. In doubles action at Noon, Akron faces Texas State, while Duquesne plays UMBC. The tournament concludes with singles play between Akron and Duquesne, beginning at 1 p.m.

# - Because of a home football game on Saturday, parking Lot 73 will be reserved for the tennis tournament and its fans only. Football tailgate parking will utilize Lots 14/15 instead.
*In the event of inclement weather, play will be moved indoors to the LaTuchie Tennis Center (3200 Darrow Road, Stow, Ohio 44224).
