Highlights
AKRON— Zips women's tennis fell to Duquesne in singles action during the final day of competition at its own Akron Shootout on Sunday.
Because of weather, play was moved inside to the LaTuchie Tennis Center.
"We got four freshmen playing this weekend, UA head coach Brandon Padgett said. "We really just wanted to see where they stood, what kind of game we really want them to play, and get them to accept what we are trying to teach them. That's the biggest transition for them."
The Zips dropped five of six singles matches to the Dukes. UA's only winner on the day was freshman Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia), who defeated Chandler Consonery, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot.
In the other singles match, Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) won five of six matches over Texas State.
All play at the three-day tourney was round-robin. Team scores were not kept.
