Blinova Named Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week

AKRON — Women's tennis freshman Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia) was named the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 22.
Blinova had an impression debut as a Zip over the weekend. At the Akron Shootout, she was the sole Zip to go undefeated with a perfect 3-0 mark in singles action.
On Friday against Texas State, Blinova played at the No. 3 spot and won, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (3). On Saturday she captured a 6-4, 6-3 win over UMBC in singles action. In Sunday's finale, Blinova was the only Zip to pick up a singles win against Duquesne, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles action, Blinova played at No. 3 with fellow freshman Kati Mdzinarishvili (Hudson, Ohio) and went 2-1 on the weekend with wins over UMBC and Texas State.
Akron travels to South Bend, Ind., on Sept. 26-28 to participate in the Notre Dame Invitational.
